From Humble Beginnings to Cutting-Edge Smart Monitoring Technology

Invisible Systems (ISL) was founded in 2003. The idea for the company came from founder, Pete Thompson on a flight back from the US – a business that could consistently and quickly monitor energy usage.

In 2006, Greggs, the nation’s favourite bakery became ISL’s first big-name customer. Greggs officially signed onto the ISL network in 2006, requiring temperature control in its fridges to protect their much-loved food products (click here to read how we helped Greggs save 5% on their energy bills!)

Between 2011 and 2013 the demand for larger capabilities from the I-System didn’t seem to slow down, yet the team at the time were more than willing to accommodate the requests of the dedicated customer base that had allowed expansion in the early years. Other significant technological changes occurred during this time – including transmitters and gateways that could work on a more powerful network – LoRaWAN (Long Power Wide Area Network).

During 2013 and 2015, after around a decade of continued customer successes, new technologies and streamlining the process, the ISL business acquired public sector and facilities contracts such as chemical composition monitoring for the National Grid and even contracts on nuclear energy plants which has only added to the brand name and client confidence.

During the later parts of the lockdown and the pandemic in 2020, ISL was at the forefront of vaccine control as the rollouts began in the UK in 2021. We have continually worked with the NHS, and vaccine storage facilities since this period.

In August 2022, the process began encompassing an open-work environment for future members of the team, as well as incorporating a dedicated lab and calibration areas in which our devices and sensors can be calibrated in-house to fulfil the specific requirements of each customer.
